Narrative
A TV series adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the sophisticated and brilliant detective Alex Cross
In episode 2, Cross tells Sampson that he smells like “mothballs and old spice.” In real life, Isaiah Mustafa is portrayed in the great Old Spice commercials as “the guy your man can smell like.” Aldis Hodge is electric as the titular cop “Alex Cross,” based on the bestselling series by James Patterson.
But the series waxes and wanes with an extended 8-episode run that doesn’t justify its length
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes, and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but it’s Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinsen who catch the eye and even manage to steal the spotlight from Aldis Hodge’s towering lead.
Watchable, but don’t expect the levels of "Reacher" or "Sugar"
If only creator Ben Watkins had kept the script tighter and focused on the investigative elements rather than the main character’s personal struggles, this could have been a groundbreaking series.
