The director of the previous two films, Paul King, decided not to direct this installment
Narrative
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who is now living at the Bear Retirement Home. With the Brown family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues as a mystery takes them on an unexpected journey. However, he came up with the idea for this third film and was involved as an executive producer.
Paddington in Peru is a pretty nice, if underrated, film
Starring Graham Norton and guest starring: Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). Sure, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Paddington 2, but it’s probably on par with the first one. With a different director at the helm, this film also has a different perspective, as it elevates the action from London and places it in the jungles of Peru.
It makes for an interesting enough story that flows quite well and keeps a decent pace
This is probably a wise choice, as it helps the film feel fresh and different compared to the other two. It also allows for a slightly different type of story, with this one perhaps feeling more adventurous and exciting. The humour is a bit average, but it’s definitely more geared towards children, so more than anything it reflects my age.
It’s sweet and gentle
I also think the emotional side is a bit lacking. I remember Paddington 2 having me in tears, but this one feels a bit more tender. I actually think that’s the word that describes this film.
Everything about Paddington 2 is toned down a notch or two, but it’s still a perfectly enjoyable and enjoyable experience
